One of things we’re most proud of here at Grand Rounds (and there are many) is the exceptional caliber of physicians in our network. By creating a platform that allows world leading specialists to tackle complex problems without the limitations of geography, we’ve helped patients all over the country receive some of the world’s best healthcare. Everyone wins—patients get access to the crème de la crème of quality-ranked physicians, and specialists get to spend their time working on the complex conditions that got them excited about going into medicine in the first place.
We want to shine some light on these superstars. Here, we’ll be featuring some of the exceptional physicians our patients have access to. While most medical experts aren’t known by name in everyday conversation, these are doctors literally writing the textbooks and setting the standard of care in any given condition. These are the doctors who will live on in medical literature as the pioneers, and we want you to know them, too.
Dr. Stephen Paget, a foremost expert on inflammatory and autoimmune disorders
An internationally recognized rheumatologist with over 35 years of experience, Dr. Stephen Paget was the Physician in Chief and Chairman of the Division of Rheumatology at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS). Now, he’s the Physician in Chief Emeritus. Dr. Paget’s research focused mainly in the areas of lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, systemic vasculitides, and premature atherosclerosis. He has received numerous honors and held positions on the board of directors for the American Board of Internal Medicine, American College of Rheumatology, and the New York Arthritis Foundation. He is currently the Director of the HSS Rheumatology Academy of Medical Educators.
We connected one of our patients with Dr. Paget when she didn’t know where else to turn for answers. Not only was Dr. Paget able to provide an accurate diagnosis for the first time in nearly 10 years, but he did so with a clear and comprehensive second opinion from thousands of miles away. “Many times patients run out of options and it seems like there is no answer to an illness. Grand Rounds opens the door for new possibilities—which is especially wonderful for those living in areas without this type of access,” she explained.
There’s no other way around it—if you’re facing a complex auto-immune disorder such as lupus, which affects women 6-10 times more often than men in the US and some 5 million people worldwide, you want to connect with an expert like Dr. Paget to help you achieve the best healthcare outcomes possible.
